We
are going to take this car and change it to red.
You of course can change it to whatever color you want to.
TIP:
Darker colors and much more difficult to change and take a good
amount of practice to accomplish. Start off using a white
or gray car for your first time.

First,
use the Polygon Lasso tool and go around the edge of the
body. Hold "shift" to add portions, and
hold "alt" to subtract a portions of your
selection. Be sure to deselect headlights, windows, or any
other part of the car that is not part of the body.
Tools used this
step:
Poly Lasso

Then
go:
-Image
-Adjust
-Hue/Saturation
Slide the saturation bar down just a little bit (or a lot if
your car already has color). This will take most of the existing color away.

Then,
go:
-Image
-Adjust
-Color Balance
From here you can slide the color bar towards the color you
want. Remember to click the "Shadows, Midtones, and
Highlights" option in the same box and move those
sliders as well.

Viola!
We went from gray to a sporty red.

TIPS:
- You
may want to play with brightness/contrast as well as
playing with the "Levels" and "Curves"
to tweak your color to match your liking.
